What To Expect

Advice and information on what to expect when staying at the Regent of Rotorua depending on the COVID-19 Alert Level from check-in to check-out.

We want you to feel secure and comfortable during your stay.  To help you prepare for your stay at the Regent of Rotorua here is a breakdown of what you can expect from the check-in experience to check out.

At all levels hand sanitiser is available for all staff, delivery drivers, and contractors at entry points to the hotel and each outlet has a kit that includes; hand sanitisers, protective face masks, disposable gloves, tissues, and disinfectant sprays.

Each area of the hotel has its own designated NZ COVID Tracer QR Code.  It is a New Zealand Government requirement that you scan in, alternatively, you can complete the manual register.

Our team has been trained in how to assist you if you become unwell during your stay.  Additional cleaning, sanitizing measures will be put in place if a guest becomes unwell during their stay.  If you start to feel unwell during your stay, please isolate yourself in your room and call Reception (Dial ‘0’).

COVID-19 Protection Framework

Due to recent New Zealand Government policy announcements, we would like to advise you that once New Zealand enters the COVID-19 Protection Framework system (otherwise known as the traffic light system) we will be requiring all guests aged 12 years 3 months and over entering our hotel facilities* to produce their vaccine pass. It has been indicated that this will be from 3 December 2021 

*This includes our restaurant, public areas, event and meeting facilities and accommodation.

COVID Protection Framework (Traffic Light System) - Orange


At ORANGE all of our front line and guest-facing staff are operating at normal levels.  Any external contractors are engaged as required without restriction – so you may see contractors in or around the hotel with a contractor pass displayed.  Administrative staff will all be back on site and operating during normal business hours. 

Vaccination passes are required for all visitors to the premises.  This includes hotel accommodation guests, visitors to functions and/or food and beverage outlets, contractors, and suppliers.  Use of face masks is encouraged but not required for guests and visitors at this level.  You will see all staff in public areas wearing face masks.

Check-in: Our usual check-in experience will operate.  Guests are required to provide their My Vaccine Pass.

Public areas:  Contact tracing QR Codes will be in place in each area of the hotel including the lobby, restaurant, and event spaces.  If you do not have a smartphone, we will also be running a manual register.   For hotel accommodation guests we encourage you to use the QR Codes, however, your registration card acts as a contact tracing register.  Guests and visitors entering the hotel will be required to provide their My Vaccine Pass.

Restaurant: A guest register and QR code are provided at the entrance to the restaurant.  Continental buffet breakfast service is available.  Guests must produce their My Vaccine Pass on entry to the building.

Room Service: Full room service menu is available.

Event spaces:  A guest visitor register and QR Code are provided at the entrance to each event space. Buffet menu service is available at this level.  Guests are required to provide their My Vaccine Pass on entry to the building. 

Mineral Pool:  Our mineral pool is open for your convenience.  Please ask reception or concierge to provide you with a key to this facility. 

Mountain Bike cleaning & storage: At ORANGE our mountain bike cleaning and storage area is available for guest use. Please ensure you scan into the area using the QR Code.  Please use sanitiser spray provided to wipe down areas after use.  

Housekeeping Services:  Daily housekeeping service as normal.

Dry cleaning service: Available as normal.

Check out: Our usual check-out and express check-out services will operate.

Guests self-isolating - refer to guidelines under "Red".

Concierge/Porter Service: Our usual Concierge/Porter services are available.

At RED all staff including front line, kitchen, front office, and housekeeping will be working on-site at the hotel.  Any external contractors are engaged as required without restriction – so you may see contractors in or around the hotel with a contractor pass displayed.   

Vaccination passes are required for all visitors to the premises.  This includes hotel accommodation guests, visitors to functions and/or food and beverage outlets, contractors, and suppliers.  Wearing face masks is mandatory for guests and staff in service areas at all times when at 'Red'.  Face masks may be removed when guests are either in their accommodation room or when they are are seated and consuming food and/or beverage in either the restaurant or in one of the function rooms.

Guests self-isolating

Rooms Service only available

Room service available. Guests to call Reception to order. Reception will place the order. Once the order is complete, Reception calls the guest advising the order is ready. The staff member is to use gloves which are removed once returning from the room. The order will be delivered to the room. The bell will be called. The staff member is to leave the room entrance prior to the guest opening the door. The guest removes the plates leaving the tray. The attendant removes the tray once the guest retrieves the order and closes the door. The attendant returns to the restaurant disinfecting the tray etc.


No turndown service offered.


Housekeeping of rooms only on departure. Guests may call to request a ‘housekeeping pack’ and self-service.


After departure, an air purification unit will be placed in the room.  Once the air purification unit(s) have been in place for a minimum of 1-hour the room can be serviced by housekeeping. Thorough cleaning using 360 Hygiene disinfecting product.

Walking distance to Rotorua's CBD and 2 minutes from Eat Street. Very friendly staff. Rooms are clean and well designed. We had a family room which had 2 comfortable double beds, a large bathroom with a rain shower plus a bath and a good range of toiletries. Despite visiting in the middle of winter the rooms were very warm. Did not use the bar or restaurant but both looked lovely; very clean and modern. The reception staff were marvellous:-). Also has an outside pool which looked great.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful the entire staff at this hotel was - the hospitality was above and beyond - they even waited for me to arrive back from an excursion late to make sure I had dinner served (without even asking) and the food was amazing - and had a table set for me even though it was long after time for them to have been home - I would stay there again in a heartbeat - thanks to every single person who made me feel at home there!!
