Geothermal Rotorua
Rotorua is one of the few places in the world where geothermal activity is simply part of everyday life. From the erupting Pohutu Geyser at Te Puia to the colourful geothermal pools of Wai-O-Tapu and the steaming landscapes of Waimangu, there are countless ways to experience the region’s volcanic activity.
Visit Hells Gate to explore New Zealand’s most active geothermal reserve, discover bubbling mud pools and geothermal walks at Kuirau Park, or take a boat trip to the geothermal shores of Lake Rotomahana.
Rotorua Hot Pools & Wellness Experiences
Few destinations combine relaxation and natural beauty quite like Rotorua. Spend an afternoon soaking in the mineral-rich waters of Polynesian Spa, coat yourself in natural mud at Hells Gate, experience the cultural wellness offerings of Wai Ariki, or unwind among the forest setting of Secret Spot Hot Tubs.

Rotorua’s Great Outdoors

Day: Rotorua Canopy Tours and Wai-O-Tapu
Spend the afternoon among Rotorua’s world-renowned forests and geothermal landscapes. Rotorua Canopy Tours allows you to get a unique perspective of native bush from above, while Wai-O-Tapu is home to some of the region’s most colourful geothermal features, including bubbling mud pools and surreal mineral terraces. Stop for lunch anywhere that catches your eye along the way; a local favourite is Ciabatta, an unassuming little place that offers phenomenal sandwiches.

Evening: Polynesian Spa, The Regent Room and Redwoods Treewalk
As the day winds down, soak in the geothermal waters of Polynesian Spa before dinner at The Regent Room. After dark, the Redwoods Treewalk is a must, with suspended walkways illuminated among the forest canopy.

Day 1: Redwoods and Rotorua’s Dining Scene

Wai-O-Tapu offers one of the country’s most dramatic geothermal landscapes, while Wai Ariki Spa provides a luxurious restorative experience overlooking Lake Rotorua that shouldn’t be missed. Finish the day by taking the gondola at Skyline Rotorua and dining at Stratosfare Restaurant, with panoramic evening views across the city.

Day 3: Te Puia, Government Gardens and Local Culture
After fuelling up with a hearty breakfast before checking out of your hotel, stroll through Government Gardens and browse some of our local galleries and shops before your next excursion. For your final adventure, head to Te Puia, home to the Pohutu Geyser, rich Māori cultural experiences and traditional carving and weaving demonstrations.
